Giving Back to Our Community

As a company that primarily services the legal industry, Aderant has always been impressed with the pro bono initiatives taken on by our clients. We believe that community service by members of our team is a worthy and noble pursuit, and we are pleased to support and enable our employees in service projects with such incredible enthusiasm. As a company policy, Aderant employees are offered an additional day off each calendar year to volunteer in their local community.

Global Day of Service

As part of a larger initiative to promote charitable work, Aderant encourages all of its more than 500 employees worldwide to dedicate a full day of service in their respective communities. Each of the eight offices around the world select a date, a charity and a project in which to support this effort.

With three offices in the United States, two each in Europe and Australia, plus one in New Zealand, Aderant employees enthusiastically support the initiative and donate their time and talents in a variety of disciplines including toys for kids during the holidays, helping fight hunger, supporting foster child initiatives, and improving conditions at community parks.

Over the past few years, employees in the home office in Atlanta have volunteered at the Chattahoochee Nature Center, the United Way of Greater Atlanta, the Foster Care Support Foundation, and most recently at the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

“We try to do something different each year,” says Stephanie Buback, Aderant’s Global Director of Human Resources. “At Aderant we value being part of our community’s educational, scientific and cultural life, so our annual Day of Service gives us the opportunity to do that, while also providing charitable work for worthy causes.”

Cristo Rey Integrated Education Program

Cristo ReySince 2015 Aderant has partnered with Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School. The partnership is a corporate work-study program geared specifically for students from lower-income families in order to help overcome financial and social obstacles to educational and professional opportunities.

Cristo Rey Atlanta is one of a network of 32 college preparatory schools across the country dedicated to providing students a unique four-year, integrated work-study experience that prepares them for success in life and in their communities. Funded by corporate donations, tuition is covered for students who attend traditional classes four days a week, and work as interns in a corporate setting one day a week. The work-study program mirrors the traditional school year, meaning four Cristo Rey students commit to working at Aderant one day a week from August through May.

“Cristo Rey Atlanta is thrilled with the partnership we have with Aderant,” said William Garrett, Cristo Rey Atlanta President. “Aderant treats our students as an important part of their workforce, providing meaningful work and expecting high quality performance from our students. This partnership with Aderant not only offsets about sixty percent of the cost of education, it also provides our students with experience and learning that simply can’t be replicated in the classroom. Aderant is truly changing the lives of our students.”

The Cristo Rey approach to education has proven successful with one hundred percent of its graduates being accepted into college. That is a mission Aderant is proud to get behind and support.

Momentum Conference

Aderant’s annual Momentum Conference is hosted in a different city each year. In the host city, Aderant donates a portion of the proceeds to a local charity.

At the 2016 conference in Atlanta, a dueling pianos event saw attendees tip the musicians for requests. Aderant matched the total amount of tips and donated the funds to the Atlanta Mission.

At the 2017 conference in Chicago, Aderant partnered with the ITW David Speer Academy, a charter school that offers a STEM-focused education to underserved Chicago youth.

At the 2018 conference in Denver, some of the attendees were actually puppies that helped encourage donations to the MaxFund Animal Adoption Center.

Thanksgiving Give Back

Employee Spotlight: Alexa Steingaszner

For many of us, the holidays are when we take time to pause and be thankful for the company of our loved ones with a meal or traditions. However, this is not a reality for so many families – and for those families, providing for the holidays can put a huge strain on finances.

Alexa Steingaszner, Professional Services Project Manager at Aderant, has been active with many local charities, raising money by participating in 5K runs. Yet, after hearing from a friend about My Friends and Me ─ an Atlanta area non-profit run that helps families in need with their holiday meals ─ she felt a connection and wanted to help. My Friends and Me’s impact on the community inspired Alexa to give back in a more hands-on role.

“At Thanksgiving, many of us have massive tables of food,” said Alexa. “I wanted to help give as many families as possible a Thanksgiving experience without them having to worry about the cost.”

For Thanksgiving 2019, My Friends and Me, delivered 1,300 traditional Thanksgiving meal bags to children and families in need. Alexa not only helped assemble the bags but got to deliver them to several schools and churches with children whose families would typically do without a Thanksgiving meal.

After several fundraising events to collect donations, each bag was filled with $35 worth of ingredients and recipes to make holiday favorites, allowing families to enjoy cooking the meal together. The hard work from Alexa and 300 other volunteers gave children and their families in need across the community the full holiday experience.

“It takes so little to get involved, and it’s a good feeling to give back,” said Alexa. “Our reach has grown so much over the years, and hearing back from school counselors about how much happiness it brought the kids brings me joy. I look forward to helping My Friends and Me grow its reach to even more families in the future.”
